1lt robert r. vertrees

biography

Vertrees, from Pontiac, IL, served in the Army Air Corps with the 488th Bomb Squadron, 340th Bomb Group as a B-25 Bomber Pilot during World War II. He was stationed in Italy and flew 49 combat missions, including participating in the D-Day assault on Southern France.
