Robert, from Pontiac, IL, originally joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 1955. In 1958, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves. He then served with the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii, the 69th Army Battalion, and the 25th Medical Battalion. In 1962, he deployed to Korat, Thailand. In 1964, he served at the Arlington Heights Dispensary at Ft. Sheridan, IL. In 1965, he received his commission.
