
MAJ Carl Aamch
Biography
Carl, from Chicago, enlisted in the Army in 1954 and served in Europe and stateside, then served in Korea from 1962 to 1964. Carl was initially trained as an Infantryman and Ranger and served with advisory forces in Vietnam, then with the U.S. Combat forces from 1964 to 1966 as an enlisted man. After returning to the U.S., he completed Officer Candidate School and flight training as a Bell UH-1 Iroquois "Huey" helicopter pilot. Between 1967 and 1972, he served 3 more tours in Southeast Asia and 1 in Korea from 1972 to 1974. Carl was killed in 1975 during a night-time training exercise when his Huey collided with a rocky outcrop during a landing attempt on the Hawaiian main island. He was the only fatality.
