biography
Charles enlisted in the Army as a Musician in 1949 and requested a transfer to the Infantry in 1951. He was assigned to the 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division and sent to Korea. He served in combat until 1952. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952. Charles re-enlisted in 1955 and returned to the U.S. Army bands until his retirement from the Army in 1972. He was one of only a few Army Musicians to have earned the coveted Combat Infantryman Badge. In 1965, his band was sent to the Dominican Republic following the U.S. intervention there and assisted in the clean up and stabilization of the country.
