biography

Oakes, from Pontiac, IL, served in the Army with the 61st Field Artillery, ist Cavalry Division during the Korean War. Oakes arrived in Korea two weeks after the war began. He fought in the Pusan Perimeter and was manning a "Quad-50" on a half-track when the Chinese Army came into the war.
